The Lands under Shadow
Dwarves are a short, stocky people who seem to be a part of the earth itself, ranging in shade and hue from a rich earth-red to a granite-stone grey. All dwarves grow thick, luxurious beards, although the females tend to keep them trimmed. Dour and with a strong distrust towards magic beyond that of magical weapons and the elements, they tend to be a withdrawn, sullen people.
The Shield Dwarves of the north are a people whose numbers have been dwindling for several thousand years. They once controlled vast empires from their mountain fortresses but have gradually lost them to dragons, goblinoids and natural disasters. Although many dwarves remain dedicated to their mines, many more have moved into human cities where they can put their crafting talents to good use. Even there, dwarven communities tend to keep to themselves.
Dwarven adventurers, while not common, are legendary for their ferocity, durability and capacity for strong drink.
